Cooking Up Hope

A night with purpose

Each year, LED Lighting SA brings its community, customers, suppliers and partners together to raise funds for a cause close to our hearts: the Sunshine and Smiles Festival, arranged in partnership with the Sisanda Fundaytion.

This year’s fundraising event, aptly titled MasterChef versus Mayor, was our most successful yet. With the incredible support of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and everyone who attended, we raised more than R400 000 towards creating a memorable festival for children and communities who deserve a day filled with happiness, connection and opportunity.

The ultimate macaroni and cheese cook-off

At the centre of the evening was a highly anticipated cooking competition between Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and MasterChef winner—and LED Lighting SA CEO—Shawn Godfrey.

The challenge was simple: create the ultimate macaroni and cheese. After losing the title the previous year, Shawn entered the competition determined to reclaim it. Following a lively cook-off and some deliciously competitive moments, MasterChef Shawn emerged victorious and officially won back his title.

Of course, the real winners were the children who will benefit from the funds raised.

An evening filled with entertainment

The entertainment continued with comedian Namaste Bae, who had the entire audience in stitches. Carl Wastie then took to the stage, keeping guests on their toes while leading a spirited auction filled with laughter, excitement and generous bidding.

The energy grew throughout the evening, with an exhilarating drumming performance setting the stage for the headline act. South African music icon Jack Parow then brought the celebration to an unforgettable close.

More than just a fundraiser

MasterChef versus Mayor was not simply an evening of food and entertainment. It was a reminder of what can be achieved when businesses, public leaders, entertainers and communities work together for a shared purpose.

The more than R400 000 raised will support the Sunshine and Smiles Festival, helping the Sisanda Fundaytion and LED Lighting SA deliver a joyful and meaningful experience to children and families.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, every performer, sponsor, auction contributor, guest and team member who helped make this remarkable achievement possible.

At LED Lighting SA, we believe that making a difference extends beyond the products we manufacture. It is also about using our platform, relationships and resources to bring light into the lives of others—and this year, our community shone brighter than ever.
